Aurora in the Air Industry

Aurora's biometric technology is now available to assist with the stringent security requirements within the air industry.
Advanced Infrared Passenger Verification
The Aether camera uses the Aurora Imaging and Recognition (AIR) engine, which is probably the world's most advanced infrared face recognition engine.
Using consistent near infrared lighting and imaging technology designed specifically for face recognition, Aurora has overcome the problem of varying lighting conditions, leading to a highly robust system with unprecedented levels of accuracy.
Better than human authentication, the system works consistently 24 hours a day and during extensive trials has received no false accepts.
Infrared Passport Holder Validation
In addition to its fast and accurate infrared matching capabilities, the AIR engine can also compare a colour reference image with a captured infrared image; this gives users the ability to validate the identity of passport holders. AIR is currently the only engine that offers this facility.
Because of the engine's capabilities, the Aether unit can be used as a straight forward add-on when used in conjunction with 3M's world renowned passport reader.
Simple SDK for Integration
The Aurora Software Development Kit (SDK) allows software engineers to integrate Aurora Imaging and Recognition (AIR) functionality into existing applications, thus benefiting from Aurora's world leading infrared face recognition technology.
The simple API provides an interface to control the Aurora Aether unit for enrolment, verification and identification procedures. It also includes an advanced module, providing extended functionality for using multiple recognition algorithms. The advanced module allows comparisons between full colour and infrared images, parallel processing, biometric template merging and other advanced techniques.
Features & Benefits
- The Aether unit is small and non-intrusive.
- The unit is simple to use, the subject just has to look towards the camera.
- Verification can be accomplished at variable distances, up to 1m.
- The size of the facial templates created by the AIR engine is 6KB – amongst the smallest in the industry.
- 20 millisecond face detection boosts accuracy and lowers false rejection rates.
- The invisible near infrared light source is immune to changing lighting conditions.
